Reflecting on my "why" 1

In 2013 I got a unique opportunity to re-invent myself. I was gifted the chance to step back from my life and decide what I actually wanted to do.

Sitting down and asking yourself the question, “What do you want to be?” can be daunting, but incredibly exciting at the same time. I was never one of those people who at age 8, knew that they wanted to be a pilot or a lawyer or an author. I often felt lost as I believed then that you should know. Heck, by 40 years of age you really should know, right?

During this finding-your-life’s purpose exercise I kept coming back to one thing. I realised that during my career I have always gravitated to my passion, whether it was intentional or not, it always came back to people. Helping people be the best they can be in their businesses, careers and lives in general. A statement that I truly believe is that people are the most important asset in your business! If you don’t nurture this essential resource, your business will never succeed.

Looking back at my career I have worked at the strategic management level for nearly 10 years and have been in the franchise and people coaching business for over 17 years. Consistently, my work has been orientated around training, people development, coaching, business operations and all areas of human resources. Through all of these disciplines I worked very closely with people – individually and in groups – developing their ability to either grow within their careers or their business as well as assisting with interpersonal skills development.

I realised then, whilst exploring the “new me” that I didn’t actually need to re-invent myself, as I had already found my calling. I just needed to acknowledge it, own it!

To strengthen my position I became certified in professional coaching and established Tikumu Consulting. My coaching practise has a strong passion and focus on business, management and leadership coaching, as well as improving communication through behavioural change within organisations as a whole.

I am based in Auckland, and work with small, medium and large businesses and organisations to provide a range of coaching options from independent professional, business owners, executive management and group coaching workshops through to personal coaching. My coaching practice is also aligned to the ethics and ethos of the ICF, the International Coach Federation.

I re-discovered my happy place. I had been there all along.
